Investing  in Trends with
DynaMo/DynaHedge

DynaMo and DynaHedge are wealth management products structured and managed by Julius Baer, advised by BentinPartner  and dedicated to Trend-following.

The products are  targeted for accredited and experienced investors only.

What is Trend-following?

  • A purely quantitative (price and rules driven) investment strategy  identifying and riding positively  trending assets (and desinvesting from those that are not).

Why Investing in Trend-following?

  • T-f is a dynamic, purely quantitative and self adjusting strategy that is particularly well suited for uncertain times. It is  backed by Academic Research for delivering equity like returns with a lower volatility and smaller drawdowns over long periods of time. Early adopters include famous investors such as Paul Tudor Jones, Felix Zulauf and many others.

  • T-f enables to mitigate the impact of four human investment biases ("anchoring", "herding", "confirmation bias" and a "reluctance to take losses").

  • T-f enables to detect and invest early  in positive "outliers" that can make a decisive difference in any portfolio's performance over time.

  • If you believe in the reliability (and sausage making) of Efficient Markets Theory (EHT), the strategy is probably not for you.

How to Invest in Trend-following?

  • You can either do it yourself. There is an infinite number of ways to apply this strategy as long as one remains faithful to its principles and rigorous in its implementation.

  • Alternatively, you can outsource the strategy to investment professionals such as ourselves.

AMC-Dynamo

A certificate managed by Julius Baer and advised by us, offering weekly liquidity,  which invests dynamically in a subset of the SP500 components holding the best trend and momentum characteristics at any given point in time.

The certificate applies a 100% rules-based and two-layered macro hedging strategy at the security and SP500 futures level to reduce net equity exposure in periods of stress or market turmoil.

Dynamo’s highly adaptative strategy enables to significantly reduce portfolio risks (the left tail part of the return distribution of SP500 returns) while still running with a full exposure most of the time, relying solely on a quantitative assessment of global markets risks to reduce portfolio exposure.  This addresses some of the shortcomings of discretionary hedging (that may come too early, too late or inconsistently).

Investment Objective?

AMC-DynaMo proposes an alternative to a passive investment in the SP500 index.

AMC-DynaHedge

A certificate managed by Julius Baer and advised by us, offering weekly liquidity,  which screens trend related opportunities, primarily across US and international equities but also government bonds, precious metals, commodities and foreign exchange. The strategy aims to maintain a diversified asset allocation accros international markets, occasionnaly lightening/lifting allocation to asset classes that are trending down.

Investment Objective?

DynaHedge proposes an alternative to the standard 60/40 stocks/bonds balanced portfolio.

Currency Risk?

Currency risk remains an important dimension of investment risk and increasingly so.

DynaMo and DynaHedge are CHF based products, invested (mostly) in US securities but applying a currency overlay hedging program using trend-following rules to determine the necessity to hedge USD currency risk vs. CHF  (or not) at any given point of time.
